Dear Co-op Members,
It is with great pleasure that the Sacramento Natural Foods Cooperative Board of Directors announces the hiring of Sean Eakins as our new General Manager. Sean’s first day at the Co-op will be June 29th.
Sean has more than 25 years of grocery experience. He’s held leadership positions at New Leaf Community Markets in Half Moon Bay, Winter Ridge Natural Foods in Sandpoint, Idaho, and Bi-Rite Market in San Francisco. In addition, he’s been in management roles at Sprouts, Poor Old Weber’s Land & Sea, and Sam’s Club.
Sean has a strong background in store operations and brings a ton of energy and passion to our Co-op. He is in the grocery business because he wants to make a difference in people’s lives by providing access to healthy foods and encouraging sustainable choices within our food system.
Sean is a firm believer in engaging with staff, members, shoppers and our community. In addition, he values local farms and has thoughts on how to increase their presence within our Co-op. At the same time, he’s aware of our goal to succeed as a sustainable business that reaches as many people as possible.
We are excited to welcome Sean to our Co-op. We believe his values, principles and experience will help lead our organization through any challenge.
The Board’s path to finding Sean was long and filled with many difficult decisions. The process started last September when the Board appointed a committee to conduct the search. We cast our recruiting net across the nation and, fortunately, attracted many outstanding candidates.
In February, the Board conducted interviews utilizing Zoom with a number of candidates from across the country. During the entire process, the committee included staff in the interviews. We believed their perspectives would provide a 360-degree view of the candidates. For our final round, the Board and select staff, conducted in-person interviews following socially-distance guidelines.
While the Board moved as quickly through this process as it reasonably could, we did rely heavily on current staff to manage the COVID-19 crisis. We are heavily indebted to everyone on staff and especially to Tyler Burch, who stepped into the Interim General Manager role last September.
On your visits to the store, please keep an eye open for our new General Manager, Sean Eakins, and give staff a big thank you for a great job done keeping everything operating smoothly.
