Umami Bomb Kelp Sprinkle

Blend together these functional and nutritional ingredients for a quick and easy rub for baked tofu, to add to your favorite soup, rice or veggies or even popcorn seasoning! The possibilities are endless!

By making your own blend you can add in or adjust this to YOUR preference and dietary needs.

Kelp may improve sensory receptors. It may also promote healthy nails and blood vessels, aid in digestion, and ease constipation.

According to a study in the journal Marine Drugs, kelp contains phytonutrients that may help reduce inflammation, a possible contributor to chronic diseases like arthritis and Alzheimer’s disease. These phytonutrients, called carotenoids, protect in other ways, too: They’re antioxidants, which neutralize cell damage.

I used dried mushrooms and ground them into a powder. This can be better than purchasing a mushroom powder that is premade, as you control what parts of the mushroom is included (some powders are made of stems and broken pieces as opposed to the full mushroom). If a concern, check for grit in advance by soaking a couple. See the recipe article for more notes about the mushrooms. 1/2 cup of dried mushrooms makes about 1/4 cup of powder.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ounce dried mushrooms blended into fine powder
  • 2 tablespoons Kelp Powder
  • 2-3 teaspoons dried lemon peel blended into fine powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne and/or chili flake
  • 1/3 cup nutritional yeast
  • 2-3 tablespoons onion flakes/powder
  • 2-3 tablespoons granulated garlic
  • 3 tablespoons Celtic sea salt

Method:
Grab a medium sized mason jar and toss in all these ingredients, pop the lid on and shake it up and it’s ready to use! Don’t forget to label it!

Method:

  1. In a glass bowl or mason jar, stir together the Kelp powder and clay using a non metallic utensil (a metal utensil will react with the clay).
  2. Add the rose water first and mix away lumps.
  3. Add the oil, honey and essential oils and mix until the texture becomes a smooth paste. Add more oil to thin if needed .
  4. This recipe makes enough for up to two applications.
  5. To use, apply a thin layer to your dampened face and neck with a brush, avoiding the delicate eye area. Leave for 15-20 minutes and wash off with warm water.

Tip: Follow with a rose hydrosol toner and light moisturiser.
