August 2022 Roundup at the Register: Farmers Resilience Grant Program

Our Roundup recipient is a little different this month. The money that our customers round up in August will be donated to our Farmers Resilience Grant Program. We’ve partnered with California FarmLink to offer grants that focus on small farmers and ranchers who are seeking funds (up to $5,000) to advance the success of their farm or ranch businesses.

The grants program aims to meet the following needs:

  • Infrastructure or equipment that builds farm resilience and sustainability, including regenerative practices, soil-building/carbon farming, irrigation efficiency, and/or first-time organic certification.

  • Professional services for business resilience, such as bookkeepers to establish or improve accounting systems, financial planning advisors, or legal services related to business structure, succession planning, or other timely topics to advance your success.

Grant Process 2022

Our first year, we had 23 applicants so our grants committee had a real challenge! The committee members individually reviewed each application and scored them based on mutually agreed upon criteria including farm/ranch experience, viability, impact and level of need. Based on the top scores and their individual grant requests the committee was able to recommend five farms for grants totaling $19,000.
