An Ends Policy defines the purpose of the organization by describing the outcomes we exist to create and who those outcomes are intended to benefit. It answers the question, “Why do we exist?” and serves as the Co-op's North Star for determining whether the organization is fulfilling its purpose. 

• The Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op is a destination of choice for high-quality healthy foods that emphasizes fresh and organic, regionally grown produce and ecologically sustainable products to meet the needs of the membership.

• We are a financially sustainable operation that yields economic returns to member owners, local farmers, and a diverse network of regional producers and distributors.

• We are committed to environmental sustainability by following practices that use resources efficiently, reduce food waste and packaging, and prioritize seasonal availability.

• We are committed to community engagement and education, facilitating higher levels of participation, broadening membership, and providing information on food, health, and environmental justice.

• We are an exceptional and highly sought-out workplace where employees have a stable work environment, clearly defined rules and responsibilities, respectful and transparent communication, and equitable opportunities for career development.

• We are a leader among cooperative businesses and promote the cooperative economic model.

• We are in partnership with community organizations to increase our social and environmental returns to the community at large.

The Ends Policy was drafted and approved by the Policy Committee and then adopted by the Board of Directors in August 2026.
